Activation of Chlorines in Biomass Combustion (ACBC) is an on going NSF-sponsored series of chamber experiments collaborated between the University of Washington and the Carnegie Mellon University Combustion Facility. Phase one of experiments were conducted in Winter 2016 with a focus to study the kinetics of reactive nitrogen heterogeneous chemistry and halogen activation. The HRToF-CIMS instrument has been demonstrated to measure both oxygenated reactive nitrogen species and halogenated species in the gas phase (Bertram & Thornton 2009 and Kercher et al. 2009). Phase two is scheduled for Summer 2017.
