January 2001 at 1900 UTC (11
AM PST): At this time the S-Pol radar showed a heavy shower approaching
the Oregon and Washington coasts. The Camano Island radar did not show
the heavy rainband at all and just indicated some light shows off the Northwest
coast. The lack of any precipitation along the central Washington
coast on the Camano radar is the result of total blockage by the Olympics
to the southwest of the radar. The Portland radar indicated nothing
north of the Columbia River and greatly underplayed the intensity of the
feature along the Oregon coast. Neither NWS radar paints out the
offshore extent of the rain.
