Tyler studies the feedbacks between climate and carbon cycling on long (geologic) timescales. These feedbacks help regulate climate through Earth history and are increasingly viewed as tools to mitigate the effects of ongoing climate change. To better understand these complicated interactions, Tyler’s current work looks to the past, analyzing how vegetation, the water cycle, and rock weathering worked together to drive major climate transitions. Tyler completed his PhD at Stanford University and a postdoc at Colorado State University before joining the Ecoclimate Lab as a NOAA Climate and Global Change Postdoctoral Fellow in late 2022.
