Some pointers for any who may share my particular (admittedly
geeky) tastes in web surfing:
There is an "e-print" server
for atmospheric and oceanic science papers, maintained at Los Alamos. Last
time I checked there were not that many papers there. However,
this service (and any others like it) seems sure to
become a lot more popular soon, since it's an idea whose time has obviously
come.
If you want to ogle heaps of up-to-date weather data, a good site is the
Purdue Weather Processor,
and of course CMPO's own
Synoptic and Large Scale Flow Dynamics Lab is good too - they even
have weather forecasts in plain english for the New England area. These
two sites have links to a number of other similar ones.
This past summer, I went to the Stratified and Rotating Turbulence Workshop
at NCAR. This was a pretty interesting
meeting; their home page gives abstracts for some of the talks and
posters (I did a poster, with coauthors Alan Plumb and Darryn Waugh).
