I'm
a Ph.D. candidate in Atmospheric Sciences at the University of
Washington, advised by Gerard Roe and Dale Durran. I graduated from
Harvard in 2005 with a degree in physics, and then spent the next four
years working at the Air Force Research Lab near Boston.
Gerard convinced me to come to grad school by asking which of my career
options would be least likely to precipitate a mid-life crisis.
So far, no regrets.
I'm currently studying variability in the amount and distribution of mountain precipitation, in
order to better understand both the current climate and the impacts of climate change in mountainous regions. I'm
particularly interested in what controls the magnitude of the
rain-shadow effect, given the scarcity and importance of water on
the lee side of many mountain ranges.
