The University of Washington's Department of Atmospheric Science has maintained a free volunteer-based Outreach Program since 1989. Graduate students share their knowledge with K-12 students by judging science fairs, hosting groups wanting to learn more about the field, visiting schools for hands-on demonstrations and lectures, and other outreach activities. We had 30 events during the 2014-2015 school year alone, and many of our graduate students donated their time to these efforts.
Graduate students have also volunteered to aid in external outreach functions, such as the annual summer science camp hosted by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) at the western regional center at Sandpoint, and the Expanding Your Horizons events in 2008 and 2009.
