Major Western Washington Snow Storms
The dates in the following list are events in which 4 or more inches
of snow fell in lowland areas of Western Washington.

February 28, 1962A storm resulting from cyclogenesis just off the west coast. A large 500mb ridge off the west coast
extending into Alaska and a short wave trough over southwest Canada. There was a large high pressure
system at the surface over southeast Alaska and the Yukon Territory and a low pressure center off
the Washington coast. In addition, a weak artic front had previously passed through Western Washington
bringing low temperatures to the area. 7” of snow fell at Seattle-Tacoma Airport, 7.5” in Olympia, 6.5” in
Kent and 6.5” in Port Angeles. Mount Vernon received 2” and Bellingham a trace.
