Research

I am a graduate student working with Cliff Mass and Eric Salathé. I am currently working on extreme precipitation events in the Pacific Northwest. Extreme precipitation is responsible for wintertime flooding along the PNW coast, millions of dollars in property damage anually, and occasional loss of life. It is believed that the majority of extreme events in the PNW are caused by atmospheric rivers (often called a "Pineapple Express" when occuring in the Pacific Ocean due to its apparent origin near Hawaii). I am interested in better understanding the dynamics of atmospheric river events and how the dynamics and climatology may be affected by a changing climate.
