Outreach & Leadership (selected)

  • UW Atmos Outreach: I was one of two Outreach Coordinators for the Atmos Department from March 2009 to June 2011. We host school field trips to the department and show off fun demos and the amazing view from the roof, among other things. The group also volunteers to attend science nights at area schools, showing off the same exciting demos. We also participate in various science events for the public (e.g. Boeing Climate Day, Pacific Science Center Paws on Science). During my tenure, we began making short, quirky, and creative demo videos for youtube. We are entirely comprised of volunteers. See our Outreach website for more info.
  • Expanding Your Horizons (motivating young women in science + mathematics): I have participated in this half-day event held at Bellevue Community College many times throughout grad school, including co-developing activities about weather, acid rain, sea ice and its role in the climate system, and extreme Earth climates. Check out the EYH website.

  • 4th Graduate Climate Conference: The GCC is a conference for grad students, organized and run by grad students. I was a member of GCC4's organizing committee during 2009-2010. The 4th incarnation of the event was held October 15-17, 2010 at UW's Pack Forest Conference Center near Mt. Rainier and was a great success. (See evidence in the form of pictures.) For more info, see the conference's website.

GCC5 was held at MIT in October, 2011. Website here.
GCC6 was back at UW in October, 2012. Website.
