  • My research interests are in the ocean dynamics. One of the goals of my studies is understanding how the large-scale ocean circulation, mesoscale eddies and small-scale mixing interact and affect each other. Although these interactions play an important role in determining oceanic state, their dynamics is still poorly understood. Another frequent topic of my studies, is the role of the oceans in the past and future climate reorganizations. In my research, I am striving to combine comprehensive numerical simulations, observational data and conceptual models for the purpose of obtaining a consistent dynamical picture. Particular topics include:
  • Global thermohaline circulation and mechanisms that control it
  • Response of the thermohaline circulation to increasing concentration of the atmospheric greenhouse gases
  • Mesoscale eddies and their role in maintaining large-scale oceanic circulation and stratification
  • Water masses of the Southern Ocean and their global role
