I am a postbaccalaureate student in applied math and physics at UW, and will be entering the graduate program in Atmospheric Sciences this fall. My advisors are Cecilia Bitz, Dargan Frierson, and David Battisti, and I am supported by a graduate research fellowship from the National Science Foundation. My research interests are in large-scale climate dynamics, polar science, and science communication. Previously I studied philosophy at the Colorado College with a focus on ethics and environmental justice. Currently I am working with Professor Dargan Frierson in the Dept. of Atmospheric Science studying ocean heat uptake in the CMIP5 model output, and also with Dr. Richard Moritz of the Polar Science Center at the Applied Physics Lab developing an ice thickness distribution model. My resume is linked here. My research interests include:
  • the role of the Southern Ocean in the global ocean circulation and climate change
  • atmosphere-sea ice-ocean interactions
  • communicating climate science, and promoting public dialogue around responsible environmental policy
