My Research at the University of Washington
What's the short version? I study the precipitation (rain) and kinematic (wind) structure of hurricanes using both airborne Doppler radars such as the NCAR ELDORA, as well as space-borne radars such as the TRMM Precipitation Radar (doesn't have Doppler capability unfortunately). I was focusing on hurricane rainbands to try to figure out how the rainbands can lead to changes in intensity within storms. Now I'm changing gears a little and looking at how different variables (such as sea surface temperature, shear, location, etc.) are associated with the precipitation structures of many storms over several hurricane seasons.
Well, I think it's pretty cool anyway :-).
