About

Deanna just completed her PhD in Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Washington. Complimenting her scientific interests, she is passionate about science communication and policy as well as expanding scientific literacy amongst the public. She is looking forward to a career of bridging the gap between science and other human interests to help science be more relevant and useful to the greater good.

Through the past 6 years she has given a variety of science presentations and demonstrations to numerous groups ranging from small children to adults, and to groups as diverse as scout troops and school troops to community aviators and public safety meetings. Deanna strongly feels that these experiences made her a better scientist, not just a better communicator. She has since attended several discussions about how scientists can communicate better, how the physical and social sciences can better work together to inform decisions at all levels of life, and how this communication needs to be two-way and with as many perspectives as possible.

Don’t bother with rabies vaccine…I didn’t get one when I was in Africa for 2 months in 2006…just stay away from animals (no petting, no matter how cute they look!)
