Latest WRF v3.2 run: Outflow
13 July 2010: New run still has outflow jet
issues.
After running for a month in model time, the
outflow, here shown as 200 hPa tangential wind
speed (warm colors are cyclonic), shows signs
of feeling the effects of the period
boundaries of the outermost domain (27 km
resolution). The outflow falls apart, and is
soon followed by the dissipation of the
hurricane at the surface.
We are trying to rememdy this problem by
adding a much larger, coarser (81 km)
resolution fourth domain onto the outside so
that the outflow won't interact with the
boundaries. This once again bothered the
adaptive timestep bug, but after fits and
starts and lots of crashes it is finally
running so we will see soon if this fixes the
problem.
