Some hovmollers to get a look at VRWs
These are some images made by taking either the total asymmetric or just wavenumber1 component of the PV at 850hPa or the tangential wind and plotting a azimuth vs. time hovmoller. This data is from a short period starting at 0001-08-12+12:00:00 that was run with an output timestep of 20 min (vs. 3hr normally) in order to temporally resolve the VRWs. Some of these are also taken at various radii, all close to the RMW though. The zoom plot is of total asymmetric PV at a radius of 39km. The period of these waves is roughly 120min - compare to Wang (2001) which showed VRWs in the TCM3 model (asymmetric vorticity at 850hPa radius 30km) with a period of ~113min. See titles on figures for descriptions. Working to fix some of the images that are squished.
