-- PhilRasch - 10 Apr 2008 Here are links to a few papers that are relevant to Phil Rasch's lecture on Clouds. I dont expect you to have read and understood every aspect of each of these papers. I will cover bits of material from these and other papers during the lecture and these papers provide a start for gaining more information on the topic of clouds in climate models.

  • arakawa_review_conv_param_2004.pdf: Arakawa 2004 Review of Convection Schemes.
There is a very interesting article by Brian Mapes that provides a contrast to the quasi-equilibrium
interpretation that pervades Arakawa's way of thinking that can be found in the following book.

  • lawerenceEtal.tracer.trnspt.pdf: Lawrence and Rasch Tracer Transport by Convection. This paper discusses some of the subtleties in formulations of convection and how it influences tracer transport.

  • Bony_etal_feedbacks.pdf: The role of clouds in climate change feedback processes is discussed in this paper. It provides a nice example of why clouds matter in studying climate change
