The Thunderbird Myth

Native Americans of the Pacific Northwest have many narratives about Thunderbird, a guardian spirit that has the power to invoke thunder, lightning, rain, and hail. Thunderbird was chosen as our department design. Stories about Thunderbird and the weather he creates can be found under the links below, organized by tribe.

A special thanks goes to Kathryn Stout for providing us with great Pacific Northwest Indian references. Many of the stories that follow come from her collection of books.
