About the speaker
Hurricane expert Kerry Emanuel is a professor of atmospheric science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where he has been a member of the faculty since 1981. His research focuses on tropical meteorology and climate, with a specialty in hurricane physics. Dr. Emanuel, one of the world's leading authorities on hurricanes, is the author of more than 100 peer-reviewed scientific papers and two books. One of his books, Divine Wind: the History and Science of Hurricanes, gives an account of these awe-inspiring meteorological events, revealing how hurricanes and typhoons have literally altered human history, thwarting military incursions and changing the course of explorations. Dr. Emanuel explains how tropical climates give rise to the most powerful storms in the world and tells the reader what modern science has learned about them. |
