How to find us: campus map, driving instructions from east, north, south.

Below are directions for driving to Central Plaza Parking Garage and Atmospheric Sciences.

From the Eastside (Bellevue, Kirkland, Redmond) to the Parking Garage (Gate 1)

  1. Take I-520 west, across the Lake Washington floating bridge, towards Seattle.
  2. On the Seattle side, take the second exit, "Montlake."
  3. At the end of the exit, go right onto Montlake Avenue; you'll be heading north. Start moseying over to the left lane.
  4. Proceed across the Montlake Bridge, a cute little lift bridge crossing the Lake Washington Ship Canal.
  5. Immediately after the bridge, you'll come to a major intersection. You'll see the UW football stadium ahead on the right, and the UW Medical Center on your left. Turn left, onto NE Pacific Street. The main campus will now be on your right, and the UW Medical Center still on your left.
  6. Drive west along a very long block. At the end, take a right onto 15th Avenue NE. (Map of steps 4-6.)
  7. Drive north along a very long block. You'll come to a light where you could make a right turn into the campus; don't. At the next light, just after passing under a footbridge that crosses 15th at the Henry Art Gallery, turn right into an underground parking garage. Pay the attendant, ask for a campus map, and park. Climb to daylight. [If underground parking is full, and the attendant turns you away, ASK which lot you should go to next. They are not always as helpful with this information as we would like, and if you don't ask, they may not tell you.]
  8. Now you're looking for the Atmospheric Sciences-Geophysics (ATG) Building. The ATG building is a two-minute walk from the parking garage, in a south-southeast direction. It's located south-southeast of the Central Plaza Parking Garage and Gerberding Hall (Administration Building), west of Johnson Hall and east of Johnson Annex/Cunningham Hall/Chemistry Library buildings and north of Bagley Hall. (Map of steps 7-8.) The entrance to the underground parking garage is labeled "Gate 1" at coordinates J-8. The ATG Building is at coordinates L-11.

From the South (Portland, Tacoma, SeaTac Airport, Downtown Seattle) to the Parking Garage (Gate 1)

  1. Proceed north on I-5. Pass through downtown Seattle. Avoid the "Express Lanes." As you head across the Lake Washington Ship Canal bridge, move to the right hand lane, and exit on NE 45th Street -- the first exit north of the Ship Canal. See main campus map.
  2. Take a right (east) on NE 45th Street. NE 45th is frustratingly slow, but you'll only have to go a few blocks.
  3. You'll cross a bewildering assortment of streets: 7th, 8th, and 9th Avenues NE; Roosevelt Way NE; 11th and 12th Avenues NE, University Way NE. At the next intersection, take a right (heading south) onto 15th Avenue NE.
  4. The main UW campus will be on your left. Proceed south. From the North (Vancouver BC) to the Parking Garage (Gate 1)

  1. Proceed south on I-5.
  2. Take the NE 45th Street exit, about two miles north of downtown Seattle. (It's actually an exit for both NE 50th Street and NE 45th Street; take the NE 45th Street option.) See main campus map.
  3. At NE 45th Street, turn left (east). NE 45th is frustratingly slow, but you'll only have to go a few blocks.

  7. See below for additional instructions to arrive at the Atmospheric Sciences Loading Dock. Enter the UW campus at Gate 5 (N.E. 40th and 15th Ave. N.E.). Continue up the hill past Gate 5 to the stop sign. Turn right onto Stevens Way. Continue on Stevens Way until you come to Okanogan Lane (one-way)

Directions to the Atmospheric Sciences-Geophysics Building's Loading Dock (Gate 5)

  1. From I-5 take the NE 45th Street exit. (Heading north on I-5 turn right onto NE 45th St.; heading south on I-5 turn left onto NE 45th St.)
  2. Go east on NE 45th St. to 15th Avenue NE, turn right. Continue on 15th Ave. NE.
  3. Get into the left-hand turn lane at N.E. 40th Street.
  4. Enter the UW campus at Gate 5 (N.E. 40th and 15th Ave. NE).
  5. Go up the hill past Gate 5 (ask attendant if you need further directions) to the stop sign.
  6. Turn right (south) onto Stevens Way at the first corner (stop sign).
  7. Turn left onto Okanogan Lane (1-way) by the bus stop.
  8. The ATG Bldg. is north of Chemistry and Bagley Hall before reaching the end of Okanogan Lane (and back to Stevens Way).
