Investigating changes in the oxidative capacity of the atmosphere using isotope measurements of sulfate and nitrate from a Greenland ice core

In this project we focus on new measurements of the isotopic composition of sulfate and nitrate from Greenland ice cores with the following two objectives:

1)     Expand the record of ice core nitrate and sulfate Δ17O measurements on the glacial-interglacial timescale to the Northern Hemisphere.

2)     Investigate whether changes in the oxidative capacity of the atmosphere may have played a role in CH4 variability during abrupt climate changes (Bølling-Allerød and Interstadial-12).

We are in the middle of completing our ice core measurements.  Stay tuned for more information!
