We are planning a great year of meetings and activities and will
start them off next Thursday evening with a double header. We will
have an update on the NOAA/NWS Climate Prediction Center's winter
outlook and state of the current La Nina by Kirby Cook, and a look at
floods in western Washington from Larry Schick, U.S. Army Corps of
Engineers. In addition, we will top it off with our very own popular
winter forecast contest!
The meeting will be at NOAA, Building 9 Auditorium, starting at 6:45
PM. Don't be late! You must be on campus by then, the gates are
locked at 7 PM and there won't be anyone to let you onto the NOAA Campus.
Hope to see you next week!

"Floods in Western Washington"
Larry Schick, USACE
Larry reveals how weather, hydrology and people conspire to make
flood damage reduction a huge challenge in Western Washington. What
causes Western Washington floods, how are they regulated with dams,
what is the strategy of the Corps to minimize flood damage? Let's
bust some myths too. Rain on snow - what is really happening. Is
the Skagit is the most flood prone and dangerous river in the
country? Join us for the next
meeting of the Puget Sound AMS chapter meeting.
Something to look forward to:
