Homework:
-
Homework assignments will be posted on the Homework Assignments web-page
approximately one week prior to the specified due date.
-
Homework will be based predominantly on the lecture material and demonstrations.
-
Assignments should be handed in to the instructor at the beginning of the lecture on the due date.
Though not the preferred method, submitting assignments by e-mail is permissible; however, students will not
receive a corrected assignment. No assignments will be accepted after 10:45am on the due date.
-
Homework grade will be based on the seven best scores of the eight possible assignments.
Quiz Section:
-
In order to encourage regular attendance and continued review of material covered in class,
short quizzes will occur on Thursdays at the end of the quiz section.
-
The quizzes will be similar in format to the midterm and final (multiple choice and short answer questions).
-
The grade for the quiz component will be based on the best of five of six quizzes.
-
There will not be a quiz on the first week of class, the week of the midterm,
nor the last week of class.
-
The quiz section will also be used to review the solutions to the
homework assignment from the previous weeks.
Midterm:
Final Exam:
-
The final exam will be comprehensive, encompassing material from the entire quarter.
-
The final exam will take place on the last two days of the quarter, 16-17 August 2007.
The first day will be the multiple choice component of the test and the second will be the short answer component.
Extra Credit:
-
During the quarter students interested in an extra credit activity may participate
in a forecast competition, in which students submit (over a secure website) a
forecast of Seattle's maximum and minimum temperatures and precipitation for the following day.
-
Points will be awarded based on the number of forecasts submitted and your ranking relative to certain benchmarks; if insufficient forecasts are made you will receive no extra credit (specific details on amount of credit will be outlined prior to the contest start date).
