Grading Policy and Exam Schedule

Tests will be short answer and closed book. The Final Exam will be a cumulative exam. Students who cannot attend the Final Exam must arrange an oral final with Professor Durran before the end of the quarter.
 
1st MIDTERM Tuesday, 24 April
2nd MIDTERM Wednesday, 16 May
FINAL Monday, 4 June 8:30-10:20

Grading will be apportioned as follows:
 
Homework 15%
Each Midterm 25%
Final 35%

Homework will consist of approximately seven one week assignments. Homework assignments will be handed out and collected in the quiz sections. Two of the homework problems will be selected at randon by the TA's and graded. Solutions for all the problems will be posted each Wednesday outside the TA office. Late homework will not be accepted after the corresponding solutions have been posted. One third credit will be deducted for late homework received before the solutions are posted.
 

Quiz Sections. Each quiz section will generally include a laboratory demonstration performed by the TA. Attendance in quiz sections is mandatory. One half the homework grade will be basd on attendance in the quiz sections.
 

Forecast Contest. Forecasting will begin the sixth week of the quarter. All students will be required to submit a minimum of six forecasts (or have 5 points out of 100 deducted from their grade on the final). Students who submit a minimum of 15 forecasts will have 5 extra credit points added to their final). Students who do well on their forecasts, and submit at least 15 forecasts, are eligible for up to 5 additional points of extra credit on the final.
